Welcome to the Aviator’s segment of the Avalon 2011 website!

We hope that you find it easy to use and that it contains all the information you require to make your visit to Avalon 2011 as pleasant as possible.

As in previous years, there are a number of changes being introduced for Airshow 2011. They are based on your feedback from previous events, new regulatory requirements, procedures and practices used at comparable events overseas and the increasing use of computer-based systems.

The Australian International Airshow is conducted at Avalon Airport (YMAV). For Airshow 2011, Avalon Airport may be referred to as “Avalon Main” and will have two available runways:

18/36 – a sealed runway 3048 metres in length.

17/35, a parallel 1400 metre by 30 metre grass runway (primarily for GA aircraft) and associated taxiways located 800 metres west of 18/36 (to facilitate simultaneous VFR arrivals and departures when 18/36 is in use).

Operational restrictions (and pre-registration requirements) apply at Avalon Main, access to which will be limited to participating (flying and static) display aircraft only.

To facilitate light aircraft visits, a supplementary VFR (day only) ALA (know as “Avalon East”) is located adjacent to the Avalon Airport and is operational from Tuesday 1 March to Sunday 6 March (during daylight hours).

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT
Aircraft parking (ramp) space (hard-stand and grass) at Avalon Airport (referred to as “Avalon Main”) is restricted.

Consequently all participating aircraft for the event will have to pre-register. (Note that there is no registration requirement at Avalon East)

The first step in registration (for those yet to do so) is open the Registration segment. Complete the form and email to us. We will respond with a username and password (nothing complicated). With the username and password you will then be able to enter the “password-controlled” segments (such as participant profile and Air Display Regulations) you require – which vary depending on whether you are a:

  • flying display participant
  • static display participant
  • charter aircraft carrying Exhibition sponsored passengers (1-3 Mar only)

AVALON EAST – EXTENDED OPERATION
Avalon East is a day VFR ALA adjacent to Avalon Airport.

It will be open for use by light aircraft from Tuesday 1 March to Sunday 6 March.

Avalon East enables light aircraft to fly-in without being required to pre-register (which applies to operations at Avalon Main). Arrivals and departures are available anytime (during VFR daylight hours) at Avalon East during this period.

A free shuttle bus service to and from the nearby show entrance will be available on all days.

AIR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
Airservices Australia will provide Air Traffic Management at Airshow 2011.

The procedures for Airshow 2011 have been designed to enhance overall safety and avoid unnecessary delays not withstanding the introduction of Class D airspace at Avalon.

The AIPSUP will be issued by Airservices Australia. At first glance it may look a formidable document but, actually it isn’t!! It has been produced in A4 to make it easier to read on the flight deck. Also, it has been produced in easy-to-separate segments depending on your operating category.

Self-briefing on the AIPSUP pre-arrival will assist you and other aviators to avoid unnecessary delays.

SAFETY – IT’S IMPERATIVE
As with any aviation endeavour, safety is imperative.

We request that you assist us to provide the optimum operating environment by ensuring you arrive with all relevant information and by appropriate pre-planning.

Have a great visit!
