ASP PROGRAM TO ENCOURAGE STUDENT CAREER PATHS

The Royal Aeronautical Society Australian Division (RAeS AD) in conjunction with AVALON 2023 organiser AMDA Foundation has this week launched the AVALON 2023 Aerospace Student Professional (ASP) Program.

The ASP program is the tertiary education element of the AVALON 2023 student engagement program, Careers and Skills, which aims to connect students of all ages to the aviation and aerospace industries and promote careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

RAeS AD Melbourne Branch Chair Luke Webb said the ASP program is particularly directed at those students who are in their final years of professional study, prior to joining the aviation and aerospace workforce.

“We’re excited to announce that a special invitation is extended to Aerospace Student Professionals to attend the Australian International Airshow and Aerospace and Defence Exposition (AVALON 2023) as Accredited Trade Visitors," he said.

Successful ASP participants will be briefed pre-event on aviation and aerospace career opportunities and taught networking skills to encourage them to connect with industry onsite at AVALON 2023.

"Successful applicants can attend one of the four trade show days from Tuesday 28 Feb to Friday 3 March for free."

As the oldest global Aerospace Society, the Royal Aeronautical Society’s role is to foster expertise and professionalism in the aerospace industry through education, consultation, networking and recognition.

AMDA CEO Justin Giddings said the Careers and Skills program at AVALON 2023 is especially important given the critical need for skilled workers across the aviation industry.

“STEM is an increasingly important part of the educational curriculum and students are developing a passion for these studies from an early age,” he said.

“By offering programs like the Aerospace Student Professionals we can help ensure that, at a tertiary level, engineering students are encouraged and inspired to complete their studies and become the next generation to build Australian capability.”

An Aerospace Student Professional (ASP) is an Undergraduate, Postgraduate University or TAFE student in an aerospace engineering or aviation sciences/technology/management course/program, who actively shows a keen interest in pursuing a career in the aerospace, aviation, or defence sectors.

Applications Close Friday 24 February 2023.
