AVALON AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW
TRADE DAYS 25-28 MARCH 2025
AVALON AIRPORT, GEELONG, VICTORIA
In a first for the trio, City of Greater Geelong, Deakin University and Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA) will have a joint exhibition display at AVALON 2023.
Showcasing a range of technologies and partnerships, the three organisations will be co-located in Exhibition Hall 1. From world leading R&D and high technology manufacturing to workforce development and expanded facilities, the three companies are working together on numerous fronts both now and into the future.
“Part of the reason we decided to build the HDA Armoured vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) in Geelong, right next to the AVALON 2023 site at Avalon Airport, was to leverage the strong vehicle and manufacturing pedigree of the region,” explained HDA Managing Director Richard Cho.
“The support from both Geelong and Deakin has been excellent.”
Deakin Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iain Martin, said the Geelong-based centre would cement the University’s close connection with Hanwha, facilitating investment in local research expertise and the development of high-tech jobs.
“Deakin and HDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2021, an agreement to drive collaboration in the research and development of emerging technologies and advanced manufacturing, with a focus on growing the local economy through education and employment opportunities,” Professor Martin said.
HDA is working closely with Deakin University’s Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), based at the Geelong Waurn Ponds campus.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Defence Technologies and IISRI Director, Professor Saeid Nahavandi, said Hanwha was one of the world’s elite corporations in the development of new smart systems and technologies and would strengthen Geelong as a national centre of advanced manufacturing.
“We’re delighted to be working with, and supporting, a wide range of Geelong-based defence industry firms and showcasing the competitive advantages the region can offer to companies looking to develop or expand,” he said.
City of Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan said. “The Airshow is the perfect platform to highlight our strengths and to promote our defence capability to key decision makers from across the globe.”
